NEW YORK, NY: This Friday, March 26th, Economics 21 presents the Shadow Open Market Committee (SOMC) Symposium at the The Harvard Club in New York. Opening remarks begin at 9:00 AM, followed by SOMC Paper Presentations on “Aspects of Central Bank Independence and Financial Stability.” At 10:30 AM there will be a panel discussion with SOMC members on “Issues Critical to the Fed’s Successful Exit Policy.”
At 11:30 AM Federal Reserve Board Governor Kevin Warsh will deliver the Keynote address titled “Central Bank Independence.” Following his address there will be a discussion with him moderated by SOMC members, Dr. Marvin Goodfriend and Dr. Mickey Levy.
About the SOMC: Founded in 1973, the Shadow Open Market Committee (SOMC) is an independent organization whose members are drawn from academic institutions and private organizations to evaluate the policy choices and actions of the Federal Reserve’s Open Market Committee (FOMC), and macroeconomic policy issues including monetary and fiscal policy. The Committee’s deliberations are intended to improve policy discussions among policy makers, journalists and the general public with the hope that wiser policy decisions will result.
